Middlewich High School

Excellence in Learning – Achievement for All

Year 11 Astronomy

As part of the GCSE Astronomy course at Middlewich high school , students have to take a series of observations using a telescope.

We are very lucky to be part of the National Schools Observatory (NSO) which is run by Liverpool John Moores University. The robotic telescope is on the top of a mountain in La Palma. Students can access the telescope remotely and ask it to take pictures of the solar system and beyond.

Here are a few examples of the Moon and the planet Saturn.

Saturn was recently in the news when the Cassini spacecraft from NASA was crashed into the planet on September 15th.

We now hope to get pictures of various other objects in the Universe such as far flung galaxies many billions of light years away.
