MHS Supports November Children's Rights Month

MHS Supports November Children's Rights Month

Thursday the 27th of November was ‘Take Over Day,’ during which a number of our students had the opportunity to shadow some of our staff and have a go at 'taking over' their roles for the day, in support of November Children’s Rights Month (NCRM). Members of staff who were shadowed included Mr Simpson, Head Teacher, Mrs O'Rourke, Head of Art, Mrs Melfi, Teacher of ICT, as well as the main office staff.

The students spent the day learning about the responsibilities involved in each role, and each student who took part prepared a presentation about their experiences to be given in an assembly.

On Friday 28th November, our staff and students showed their support for UNICEF and Children's Voices by wearing an item of blue clothing different from their normal uniform.  During  assembly, students were asked to stand and put their ‘Hands Up’ in a show of support for UNICEF.

These are just a couple of events which MHS has held for NCRM, which aims to:

  •  raise awareness and understanding of children’s rights
  • make it clear to children and young people that we value their opinions and rights.
