Middlewich Community Christmas Carol Service

Middlewich Community Christmas Carol Service

Middlewich High School Community Choir were hosts to the first Middlewich Community Carol Service which was held on Thursday 18th December 2014 in St. Michael and All Angels Parish Church, Middlewich.

Many sections of the Middlewich community had been invited to participate, with some terrific performances.

The church had been beautifully decorated for the festive season, and the subdued lighting, and candles lit all around the church set the mood for a wonderful evening of Christmas music and readings.

The programme was based around the traditional “Nine Lessons and Carols.”  The community choir set off the whole evening with “Deck the Hall”, sung from the back of the church, before everyone was invited to join in singing “Once In Royal David’s City.”

Middlewich Primary School Infants Choir sang with innocence and enthusiasm and totally stole the show with their performance of “Little Donkey” and  “It Was on a Starry Night,” while the Middlewich Primary Signing Choir were inspirational, signing to “Do You Hear What I Hear?” followed by “Merry Christmas Everyone.”

The Middlewich High School Signing Choir was suitably festive in their attire and movingly performed to “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” and “Proud.”

Middlewich High School were also represented by talented instrumentalists Emily Singleton (Bassoon) and Amy Grierson (Saxophone), accompanied by Mrs Grierson, who performed “Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth.”

The community choir completed their programme with Peter Warlock’s Benedicamus Domino, the Welsh carol “Tua Bethlem Dref,” with the first verse beautifully sung in welsh by soloist Glenda Savage, In Dulci Jubilo, Coventry Carol, and finally closed with “We Wish You A Merry Christmas.”

Readers representing Middlewich community groups had been invited to retell the Christmas story through traditional readings and poems.

The church was full to capacity, and the retiring collection raised the wonderful total of over £150 for the Mayor’s charity: The Alzheimer’s Society.

It was fantastic to bring the whole Middlewich community together with all ages attending and it was a truly memorable evening.
