On Tuesday, 22nd May, we marked the 12 month anniversary of the Manchester Arena Bombing with a fundraising day for the Remembering Nell Foundation.

We sold cakes over break time, along with bee merchandise and henna tattoos at lunchtime. We have also been able to run a raffle with some fabulous prizes; our heartfelt thanks go to everyone who provided prize donations, merchandise for us to sell and otherwise supported us on the day.

Mrs Thomas focused her RE lessons for the day on the idea of hope overcoming fear. They looked at what hope and fear were and how people may define these words. They looked at the reactions immediately after the attacks and the positivity in the actions of others. They watched Tony Walsh address the crowds with his poem 'This is the Place' and talked about how his words would have encouraged feelings of hope. Students then chose coloured squares of paper and wrote their own messages of remembrance and support, including drawings, poems and pictures whilst listening to Oasis "Don't look back in Anger". The messages were then hung them from trees outside. It was very powerful to see pupils reading each other's messages and reflecting upon what happened. Their messages were heartfelt and inspiring and full of hope for the future.

We ended the day with a whole school assembly, coming together as a community to remember what happened a year ago, but also to talk about choices and remaining positive in the face of adversity. Many thanks to all our visitors and The Mayor for attending.

Our target for the day was £1,000 and we are delighted to have smashed that by raising over £1,500!
