The Year 10 Wedding

The Year 10 wedding finally arrived on Thursday 26th May after months of hard work and preparation.

The Year 10 wedding finally arrived on Thursday 26th May after months of hard work and preparation.

Pupils arrived dressed in their finest clothes, excited for the day ahead, which began with a talk by Reverend Simon Drew, who gave us a talk about what marriage really means. This was followed by two hours of workshops chosen by the students, from dance to floristry. “The workshops were very interactive.” said Simeon Dwyer, 10R. Jack Hayward, 10N, added that “It was fun to prepare for the wedding.”

After the workshops, the year made their way to St Michael and All Angel’s Church, where they waited for the bridal party. Bride Emily Lord looked radiant as she glided down the aisle to groom Nathan Hilditch. “It was a lovely ceremony,” said Miss Watt, who was fortunate enough to witness the event, “One of the most emotional lessons I’ve had.” The Bride and Groom exchanged fake vows, followed by hymns and a reading by Maid of Honour Eleanor Gunn. The wedding party was then able to sign a fake marriage certificate, before being led outside for photos with the rest of the year.

The day concluded with a reception in the Drama Studio, starting with speeches from the groom and best man George Gill. It was then time for the first dance, which had been practiced for weeks. Thankfully, it was performed without anyone breaking any bones! Mr Wilson took centre stage after this, getting everybody up for classics such as Time Warp and The Cha Cha Slide.

Even without Mr Wilson’s DJ expertise, the day was a great experience. Usher Kyle Bowker said that “It was very enjoyable. Two thumbs up!”. I’m sure that the year has learnt something new, and thoroughly enjoyed the day.
