Meet Our Leadership Team
Assistant Headteacher- Ms Holt
I am one of the five Assistant Headteachers that form our Senior Leadership Team, a role I have held for over 6 years now. I am one of the longest serving members of staff, having started my teaching career here in 1993. I have held many positions at Middlewich High School, ranging from Head of Year to Key Stage Four Coordinator and I currently lead on curriculum modelling, timetable construction and curriculum enrichment & enhancement. I successfully completed my National Professional Qualification in Senior Leadership in 2020.
I studied Geography at the University of Sheffield and retain a life-long love of the subject and as such I love to explore our planet and one of my favourite trips was a visit to Iceland in 2018. I am also a big sports fan and have recently retired from playing hockey after starting when I was at school many years ago! Some of you will remember that I managed the England U21 Women's side for a few years which was a great honour.
I like to spend time with my friends and family, including my two Labradors. I also enjoy watching sport and reading - when I have time. I love to spend time in North Yorkshire exploring the hills and dales, and look forward to my next visit there.
Assistant Headteacher- Mrs Grant
I am an Assistant Head here at Middlewich High School, responsible for Curriculum, Literacy and Teaching & Learning. I qualified as an English teacher in 2001 and I was previously a Head of English for over 10 years. I have worked in two Cheshire East schools.
I am passionate about getting people reading, whether they be young or old and I love working with curriculum leaders, putting together the best knowledge-rich learning experiences students can have.
I grew up in South Africa and Fiji and love travelling; I'm most content when hostelling around Europe. Lockdown started an interest in gardening ... and baking, much to the joy of my family and colleagues!
I am excited to be part of the leadership team driving the strategic vision of the school; our vision for excellence is compelling.
Assistant Headteacher & Designated Safeguarding Lead- Mr Wiseman
I grew up near Blackpool and studied Physiology and Anatomy at Sheffield University. Following the completion of my PGCE, I started my teaching career at Middlewich High School in 1994. I began my career as a Science and Maths teacher but quickly became part of the Pastoral Care department. During my time at the school I have been Head of Year, Head of Upper and Lower School and Head of Student Services. This eventually led to me becoming Assistant Head with responsibility for Safeguarding and Transition.
During my time at the school I have been lucky enough to be involved in a variety of enriching and unforgettable experiences. I am particularly proud of my work co-leading the World Challenge expeditions. This has allowed students from Middlewich to complete project work and support local communities all around the world. I believe that school should be a place where students have the opportunity to enjoy their learning and be offered the chance to broaden their horizons.
Assistant Headteacher - Mrs Cottrell
I graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2018 with a degree in Mathematics and Business; having always wanted to be a teacher, I started my training soon after. Since then I have worked in three secondary schools, firstly as a Teacher of maths, followed by a five year appointment as a Director of maths at an 11-18 school in Shropshire and since 2018 as an Assistant Headteacher at Middlewich High School. More recently, I became a Specialist Leader of Education and have completed a number of additional professional qualifications including the NPQSL. I am a strong advocate of lifelong learning and for a number of years have taken a professional and personal interest in educational research and development, using it to shape change and lead school improvement. My first love is mathematics and being in the classroom, I thoroughly enjoy working with young people and helping influence their futures. No day is ever the same and I love the variety a school day brings.
Outside of school I enjoy keeping fit and being outside exploring the countryside on foot or horseback. I have two young daughters that I love spending time with and numerous animals that keep me busy.
Assistant Headteacher - Mrs Abbott
I am Assistant Headteacher i/c STEM at Middlewich High School, developing a rich science curriculum facilitated with engaging extracurricular opportunities accessible to all children. Following my passion for Science and working with people
I started my teaching career in an all boys secondary school in London in 2007. When I relocated to the North West I worked in the tertiary sector for 14 years and then joined Middlewich High School on a part-time basis in 2020.
Having enjoyed working with such a dedicated team of professionals, I jumped at the opportunity to join on a permanent basis. I share the desire to make Middlewich High School first choice for our children and teachers.
Head of English- Mrs Parkins
I am Head of English and one of the Teaching and Learning Leads at Middlewich High School, responsible for the English curriculum and Teaching and Learning across the entire staff. I qualified as an English teacher in 2010 and have previously worked at schools in Trafford and further afield in Qatar.
I am incredibly passionate about students at MHS leaving us with a lifelong love of learning and an aspirational outlook on life. I truly believe that achievement is for all and try to instil a culture of excellence within the English department. As educators, I believe in continuing to learn and progress; I am enthusiastic about teachers being role models of learning to students.
Away from work, in my ‘spare time’, I am a mother to an energetic toddler who’s obsessed with
diggers and dinosaurs. My escapes are books, a hobby that has been further ignited by our Staff
Book Club, and blogging about the trials and tribulations of being a first time mum.
Acting Head of Maths- Miss Watt
I am second in Mathematics at Middlewich High School and have also acted as Head of Maths at times. I have in the past been a Head of Year and worked on the pastoral side of school. I qualified as a Maths and Physics teacher in 1996 and I have spent my whole career at Middlewich.
Maths has always been a passion of mine and I love to make students think deeply about what they are learning. My favourite topic in Maths is algebraic fractions as it starts out messy and ends up nice and neat.
I was born in Edinburgh and I have never lost my accent even though I have lived in England longer. I love travelling and places I have been to include the Galapagos Islands, Vietnam, Rwanda and Peru. I have even slept in the Ice Hotel. Back in Britain I love reading, going to the cinema and theatre and Lego.
Head of Languages- Mr Evans
Having grown up in North Wales, I didn’t move too far afield to study for a degree in French
Language and Modern France at the University of Wales, Bangor. During my degree course I had the
privilege of working as an English Language Assistant in two secondary schools in the south-west of
France; a truly memorable experience in a beautiful part of the world. After graduating, I remained
at Bangor to complete a PGCE in Modern Languages before securing my first teaching post in
Holyhead, Anglesey. I subsequently spent fifteen years at a school in Shropshire teaching French
and German, as well as taking on the Head of Department role and acting as a Head of Year.
I have worked at Middlewich for eight years now, carrying out a number of different roles and am
excited to lead the department as we embark on our exciting journey of a highly aspirational
‘Languages for All’ ambition.
I enjoy most sports, particularly football, and enjoy spending time outdoors and travelling.
Head of History - Mrs Beechener
I am Head of History and one of the Teaching and Learning leads at Middlewich High School. I qualified as a teacher in 1997 and came to Middlewich in 2004, having worked in another Cheshire East school previously. I've always loved History and feel truly privileged to have a job where I can share that love with others, and encourage students to be curious about the past, and how the actions of people before us have shaped the world we live in today.
In my free time I enjoy playing tennis, though I'm not quite ready for Wimbledon yet! I also enjoy walking, especially by the sea, where I like to spend my holidays with my two children.
Head of Geography- Mrs Young
Hello! I am head of Geography at Middlewich high school! I have worked here since 2013, and I can honestly say MHS is a wonderful place to be!
My hobbies are cross stitching and running, I have two young boys who enjoy playing in rivers as much as I do!
Head of RE- Mrs Thomas
Hello, my name is Mrs Thomas, I am Head of RE at Middlewich High School. My specialist subject is Theology. I love reading about philosophy and learning about the many religions of the world. Out of school I have a passion for animals and have many pets myself, including chickens!
Head of Enterprise - Ms Hinds-Taylor
I am Head of the Enterprise Department. I grew up in Cheshire, before moving on to Manchester University to study a Business and ICT teaching degree.I have been teaching at MHS since 2019, specialising in Computer Science, Creative IMedia and Business Studies. Before joining Middlewich High School, I have been a Head of department and Teacher in charge of Teaching of Learning.
I am a moderator for several exam boards which I fulfill alongside my position in school. I have an active interest in technology and to ensure I spend time outside, and have some fun, I play football.
Head of Performing Arts- Miss Tarbuck
My name is Siobhán Tarbuck and I am Head of Performing Arts. I studied BA Hons Music at Salford University, my final year focused on Performance and Music Technology. I went on to complete my PGCE in Secondary Music with Specialist Instrument Training at the Royal Northern College of Music. I am a woodwind specialist (clarinet, flute, saxophone),
I also play electric/acoustic guitar, bass, piano and the feadóg. I continue to practice and perform in ensembles outside my place of work as I believe that by continuing to develop my own instrumental skills I am better equipped to give students constructive, supportive and genuine advice.
I also have a passion for sports and I am a member of Vale Royal Athletics Club where I compete in middle and long distance running events.
Head of PE- Mr Denham
I have taught at MHS for over 20 years and has always valued and enjoyed teaching sports within the wonderful community of Middlewich.
I like cycling, golf, skiing and snowboarding. I enjoy spending time with my family, cooking, being outdoors, most activities in and around water. My favourite football team is Tottenham Hotspurs, we have a family pet, 2 year old spaniel called Bobby.
I want to be a better guitar and ukulele player and learn a foreign language- possibly German
Head of Art- Mrs O'Rourke
I am Head of Art and Creative Design here at Middlewich High school. I qualified as a teacher in 2002 and have taught at Middlewich high since 2003. I grew up in Cheshire and after studying Fine Art in Leicester, I moved back to complete my PGCE. I love all things creative and believe that when you use your imagination it leads to new thinking.
I am a mother to 3 children, which takes up most of my time away from school, however I love to dance and have studied Latin American and Ballroom since a young age, and I now enjoy Modern Jive and Ceroc.
In my spare time I love to paint and draw, and enjoy regular trips to the theatre.
Director of Careers and iValue - Mrs Anderson
I have been teaching for over 13 years and joined Middlewich High School in 2014. As Director of Careers and I-Value, it is my role to motivate our young people to be self-aware of their individual skills and qualities. My passion is to support our students in their participation in lifelong learning, including further and higher education as well as learning through apprenticeships and work.
Middlewich High School is an aspirational and forward-thinking school in a town that I am proud to call my home.
In my spare time I like to get out and about with my family and 3 dogs and use my geographical skills to navigate around our wonderful British countryside!
