Pathway Subject

 GCSE Philosophy & Ethics offers students the opportunity for the thematic study of Religion and religious responses to fundamental questions of life. This specification is suitable for candidates of any religious persuasion or none.  This specification encourages students to:

  • Develop their interest and enthusiasm for the study of Religion and the relationship between Religion and the wider world.
  • Develop their knowledge, skills and understanding of Religion by exploring the impact of beliefs, teachings, practices, ways of life and forms of expressing meaning.
  • Express their personal responses and informed insights on fundamental questions about identity, belonging, meaning, purpose, truth, values and commitments.

Assessment information

To gain a Full Course candidates take any two of six units available.  Each unit accounts for 50% of the total Full Course marks.  Written papers - 2 x 1 hour 30 minutes.

How will studying RE help me in the future?

Study of Religious Studies B lays a good foundation for further study of Religious Studies at A-level and complements other related A-level subjects including Philosophy, Law, History, History of Art, Government and Politics, Sociology and English Literature.

Religious Studies is a very highly regarded traditional subject; it is particularly useful for career development and applications to some of the UK’s top universities.

Future careers after studying Religious Studies include Journalism, Diplomacy, Civil Service, Social work, Teaching, Law, and many other professions.
