Welcome from the Head Teacher
Welcome to Middlewich High School. Thank you for taking the time to visit our website, we know this is our opportunity to make a first impression so we hope you find it easy to navigate and you are able to find all the information you need.
I am now in my fourth year of Headship and I am delighted to be leading a happy, inclusive school where the success of every member of our community is at the heart of our values. Over the last two years we have faced many challenges as a community. However our ‘No one left behind’ ethos and our ‘find a way’ mindset has ensured that students and staff have continued to thrive and succeed.
At MHS we work hard to ensure that students are given a wide range of experiences and cultural awareness so that they can fully appreciate the diversity of our society. We teach our students that it is our differences that unite us, make us unique and interesting as individuals and as a community. At MHS our culture is built on respect and kindness and we expect to see this demonstrated at all times by students and staff. We strive to educate our young people in the right way to support each other, it is important that they know and understand the consequences of actions/words. It is also essential that our young people and our community have a voice and are listened to - simply if it is important to you it is important to us.
We have high expectations for every student and every adult at MHS. This is reflected in our curriculum ambition, we firmly believe that every student should have the choice of a University education. We appreciate that not all students will wish to follow this path - but they should have the option of doing so. Therefore our EBACC, languages for all ambition and our carefully planned curriculum gives every child the opportunity to stand shoulder to shoulder with their peers and sets them up for future success.
We invest heavily in the development of our staff to ensure that they are experts in their field - this means that our students are getting the best professionals in every interaction, every day. Our staff believe they make a difference - and they do. If you are visiting our website because you are looking for a school that will challenge and inspire you as a professional we are confident you will find working with us incredibly rewarding.
We have strong links with Sir John Deane’s Sixth Form and we are delighted that several of our students have gone onto Oxford and Cambridge in recent years. As of 1st December 2021, we have become part of the Sir John Brunner Foundation which is a group of outstanding educational providers currently comprised of The County High School Leftwich and Sir John Deane’s Sixth Form. Our joyous ambition of achieving excellence in learning, drives each and every one of us as we look to ensure all students achieve beyond expectation. Working within the SJB Foundation will further underline and support this aim.
At MHS every member of staff from our cleaning team and site staff through to teaching staff and Governors are determined to ensure that the students we have the privilege of educating have a broad and rich curriculum experience. The greatest care we can provide is ensuring that our young people are happy, highly qualified and well equipped for the world beyond the school gates.
Please come and see us for yourselves; we welcome visits during the school day whether you are an interested parent/carer, a potential colleague who is looking to join us, a new teacher who is looking to train with us or a business who wishes to work with us.
We look forward to learning with you,
Heidi Thurland,
Headteacher
